How do they animate South Park?

I know that they use Autodesk Maya, a 3D program, but exactly how do they do it?

    South Park is animated?

That would probably require a pretty extensive tutorial on animation, MEL and shaders.

Originally it was done with paper cut-outs that were scanned in and then animated. The goal was to keep it crappy looking, and to make it quick to produce.

Original tools were Alias/Wavefront’s Power Animator, but they moved to Maya. I believe this happened some time after the Southpark movie.

Source links below give some technical details.
