What does a “term” mean when buying a 3D program?




I am looking at buying Maya + 3DS MAX both in the student edition but I am a little confused about what it means when it comes to term. Both have a term (Maya being 14 months, 3DS MAX being 13). Does this mean the software only lasts that long before the license expires or something?
P.S. Would you recomend Maya or 3DS?

    Yes that’s the expiry date of your license.

    I strongly recommend you try Softimage XSI 7.0 instead of 3DS Max or Maya !
